Golf
Royal Cromer Golf Club
was founded in 1888 and given royal status by the Prince of Wales in the same year. The course was originally designed by Tom Morris, and with improvements over the years it is now widely regarded as one of Norfolk’s finest courses. It is essentially cliff top in character with spectacular views and boasts all the features of a coastal course with a wealth of sandy hills, grassy valleys and abundant gorse and bracken.
The Sheringham Golf Club has a distinguished golfing history and is proud to have hosted many major amateur events which include: The English Ladies’ Golf Championships, The English Boys Championships and The Senior Ladies’ Home International Matches in September 2010.
The Royal West Norfolk Golf Club is an outstanding links course set on the North Norfolk Coast. With the North Sea on one side and the salt marsh on the other it has a wonderfully atmospheric setting.
Cromer Pier & Pavilion Theatre
A traditional pier complete with a theatre, providing seaside special variety shows, visiting performances and various special music events.
A Fabulous Blue Flag Beach
The beach is managed by North Norfolk District Council and is one of seven beaches in the county to feature in the Marine Conservation Society’s Good Beach Guide for 2005. The sand and shingle beach backs on to the North Norfolk cliffs and is ideal for swimming or just meandering along. The beach is also a popular place to go surfing, due to its consistency and shelter which is provided by the pier.
Walking
The Norfolk Coast Path is a long distance footpath in Norfolk, running 45 miles (72 km) from Hunstanton to Cromer. It was opened in 1986 and covers the North Norfolk Coast AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).
Weavers Way is 56 miles (90 km) long and runs from Cromer to Great Yarmouth.
Tennis & Squash
Cromer Lawn Tennis & Squash Club welcomes tennis, squash and social members and is also open to the general public, who may play at the club at non-member rates. They are a friendly club with 4 floodlit all-weather courts, 10 grass courts and 2 squash courts, clubhouse and bar. They play all year round, and offer competitive and social tennis and squash for all ages and standards.
Sea Angling
Mixed catches including cod can be made from the town’s beaches and the pier provides the opportunity to capture specimen sized Bass.
Horse Racing
There is horse racing at Fakenham Racecourse, offering a range of race days and events.
Cycling
Norfolk Coast Cycleway is 92 miles (148 km) and runs parallel to the coast and passes through a mixture of quiet roads and country lanes, linking the town of Kings Lynn in the west to Great Yarmouth in the east.
There are several hirers of bikes in Cromer including Electrifying Cycles and Pedal Revolution.
Cinema
For nearly 100 years, films have been shown on this site. The Cromer Theatre of Varieties (built in 1914) showed short silent films between variety acts. The theatre was enlarged and modernised. with a balcony also added in 1936. Despite several name changes it remains the oldest cinema operating in the county. It is a very popular 4 screen cinema with holiday makers and locals alike.
Country Houses
Remember to bring your National Trust membership card with you because Norfolk hosts many exceptional country houses from Sandringham House (the Queen’s country residence, with acres of glorious gardens, woodland and lakes) to Holkham Hall with magnificent parkland, deer park and spectacular beach (used as a location for the film Shakespeare In Love). Blickling Hall, Felbrigg Hall, Houghton Hall, Wolterton Hall and Mannington Manor are all within easy reach.
Thursford Collection & Christmas Spectacular
Come and see the world’s largest collection of steam engines and organs, hear Robert Wolfe (one of the world’s leading theatre organists) play the mighty Wurlitzer, ride on fairground carousels and the gondola, enjoy ‘Behind-the-Scenes’ tours and watch silent movies.
The Christmas Spectacular has a £3m budget and is a three-hour fast moving celebration of the festive season featuring an eclectic fusion of the seasonal and sacred, with famous chart topping pop favourites being sung alongside traditional carols. It is now generally recognised as being the largest show of its kind in the country, if not Europe. With a cast of 130 professional singers, dancers and musicians the range covers everything from solo singers, to full four part choral number with amazing dancing and costumes.
The Muckleburgh Collection
The Muckleburgh Collection is the UK’s largest privately owned Military Collection with 25 Tanks all in working order, including armoured cars, bombs, artillery and missiles used by the allied armies during World War II. It incorporates the Suffolk and Norfolk Yeomanry Museum of uniforms, weapons, photographs and documents, RAF Reconnaissance and Air Sea Rescue and Marine Craft.
There are items of artillery used in the Falkland Islands and uniforms, weapons and other equipment recovered from coalition and Iraqi armies in the Gulf War. Some post-war aircraft is on display with a unique collection of model ships.
Tank demonstrations and rides make it an exciting day’s visit.
Seal Trips
Seal Watching at Blakeney is a once in a lifetime experience, enabling close up encounters with these inquisitive animals, usually swimming right up to the boat! Set amidst spectacular coastal scenery, most seal watching trips take visitors to Blakeney Point. It is maintained by the National Trust and is also an important breeding ground for many rare birds – as well as seals.
Most of the seals seen are Common and Grey seals. Common seals have their young between June and August, the Greys between November and January.

Voewood
Voted regional winner for the Eastern Region in Country Life Magazine England’s Favourite House.
Voewood is the great house of the Arts & Crafts movement and in that tradition, much of the material was quarried from the land it was built on. The house organically grew out of the ground and only local craftsmen were employed. The detailed care lavished on the house produces a unique atmosphere that cannot adequately be conveyed in photographs.
Voewood holds Garden Parties, open days and festivals – well worth a look if you’re in the area at the time.
